Welcome to Safehaven

...Verily I say unto you, in as much as you have done it unto one of the least of these, you have done it unto me.   Matthew 25:40

The Problem

With our countries current economy many peoplefamily are finding themselves homeless for the first time and have no idea how to get out. Many people think that this just happens in BIG Cities, but in rural Kansas there are 3,438 people homeless on any given night, and the number is growing. People who were thought to be middle class are now living in their cars or with family members. If you have no home of your own and are staying with your mother, brother, sister or even your in-laws, you are homeless.
Many hear the word homeless and assume that you are talking about dirty, drunk transits that jump from train to train. This is only one picture of homelessness. Not ALL homeless have drug or alcohol addictions or mental problems. They are every day people like you and I who just could not make it any more.
If you think about it we are all just a few paychecks away from homelessness. What would you do if you were laid off today or your company closed, where would you go? Where would your next meal come from?

Labette County Homelessness

In Labette County there are 69 people homeless on any given night. This is not counting the hidden homeless that are staying with friends and family.

What is Safe Haven Outreach?

Safe Haven Outreach Mission, Inc. is a non-profit; Non- denominational Faith based Community Outreach. We are a 501(c) 3 company. We want to be a hand up Not a hand out!!

Our Goals

1.    Share the love of Jesus, to make each person feel loved and accepted by society.
2.    Provide Shelter, if only for one night.
3.    Provide a good hot meal.
4.    Inform people of the resources to help them get out of their situation.
5.    Prepare people to be a vital, productive and active part of the community.
6.    Help them find employment.
7.    Help them find affordable housing.

Who can stay at Safe Haven?

Our facility can house 8 people at a time which includes men, women and a family. Each resident MUST pass a drug test upon arrival as well as a background check.
No violent or sexual felons will be allowed to stay. This is for the safety of all of our residents and staff.
Our target time frame is 60-90 days a person can stay, but this will be a case by case situation. Residents must look for and maintain work to save for deposits for rent and utilities. While working residents must also pay 15% of their income back to the shelter for their room and board.
While looking for work each resident must help maintain the shelter by doing chores inside and out as well as in the community. The residents will also be doing the cooking. This provides a more family like atmosphere.
When our residents are ready to move into their own place, it is our goal to give them starter furniture, so these items are always welcome donations.

How are we funded?

Our main support comes from community support and private donations. We do apply for faith based grants also. Our community has been very supportive of our organization.
We have also just been awarded $14,000 from a Compassion Kansas Grant through Wichita State University to help build up our organization.

How can you help?

Of course we are always looking for monetary donations but we know not all can give financially. We are also looking for prayer partners that will lift us up in prayer on a regular basis. You could volunteer at the shelter; we always need an extra set of hands. If you would like more information please feel free to email me at This email address is being protected from spambots.
